Partnership with CWRU

The intimacy of a conservatory with big school benefits — that's what �Ӱ�ԭ�� offers our students thanks to a special partnership with our neighbor, (CWRU).

Known as a leader in engineering, medicine and law, CWRU is also one of the top schools for musicology in the world. For more than , �Ӱ�ԭ�� and CWRU have used our educational partnership, the Joint Music Program (JMP), to share collective resources, focusing on the strengths of each institution.

As a �Ӱ�ԭ�� student, you can take music history and non-music electives in the humanities and sciences at CWRU. Some �Ӱ�ԭ�� students also purse an at CWRU, and a select few pursue a dual-degree. Meanwhile, CWRU students take music lessons with the �Ӱ�ԭ�� Joint Music Faculty, in addition to performance, chamber music, theory and eurhythmics classes at �Ӱ�ԭ��.

Partnership Areas

Classes: General education coursework and/or electives required for any performance major — automatically included for all students at �Ӱ�ԭ��.
Minor: �Ӱ�ԭ�� students receive a degree or certificate from �Ӱ�ԭ�� plus a minor in any subject from CWRU after taking a series of electives in any concentration that meets requirements for a minor.
Dual Degree: �Ӱ�ԭ�� students can earn a five-year degree from �Ӱ�ԭ�� plus a degree from CWRU — through an application process to �Ӱ�ԭ��, review by both �Ӱ�ԭ�� and CWRU for admissions and successful completion of requirements at both schools.

Complementary Options

Although students may choose a dual degree in any area in addition to music performance, our CWRU partnership offers certain options that specifically complement performance studies:

Shared Audio Recording Degrees: A four-year program built around audio majors from both campuses. �Ӱ�ԭ�� students can add a fifth-year double major in audio recording, performance, composition or eurhythmics.
Bachelor of Science in Music Education: As a dual degree, this program offers preparation for the Ohio Special Certificate in Music (all areas of music in grades K-12)
Bachelor of Arts in Music Education: As a dual degree, this program emphasizes studies in music and general education such as music history and literature, theory, early music performance practices and recording technology.
